Romancing the Werewolf, released in 2017, centers on Sandalio de Rabiffano, aka Biffy, and Professor Randolph Lyall, characters first introduced in Carriger’s debut novel Soulless. There, she falls “desperately in love with the amazing lady inventor imprisoned in the potting shed.” Romancing the Inventor, released in 2016, tells the story of Imogene Hale, “a lowly parlourmaid with a soul-crushing secret” who goes to work at a local vampire hive. Romancing the Inventor and Romancing the Werewolf are LGBTQ romances in a series dubbed Supernatural Society. So why a collection? “Mostly because a bundle like this is helpful to have on certain platforms like BookBub and Apple,” the author wrote in a message to her fans.
Why the title? Because “these three stories are my most requested character wrap-ups from the Parasol Protectorate series,” Carriger explained prior to the book’s release.Īll three stories are also available separately in digital editions. Subterranean Press originally released the omnibus in October 2019 as a limited-edition hardcover volume that quickly sold out. Gail Carriger has released a digital edition of Fan Service, an omnibus containing three previously released stories: The novellas Romancing the Werewolf and Romancing the Inventor plus a short story, “Meat Cute: The Hedgehog Incident.”
